Riverside, CA – On Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at about 1:50 a.m. a Riverside Police Officer patrolling the area of Arlington and Norwood saw two subjects standing next to a parked vehicle behind a closed automotive business. The officer contacted the subjects near the vehicle and determined one of them had an outstanding arrest warrant for narcotics violations. The officer inspected the vehicle and found a live 3 day-old Jersey calf in the back seat. The calf appeared to have had the identification tags forcefully removed from its ears and the subjects claimed to have purchased the calf at a local gas station for $200.00. Based on the subject's lack of any documentation regarding the purchase of the calf and the removal of the identification tags from the calf's ears, 31 year-old, Cesar Zamora Santana of Riverside was arrested for charges related to the possession of the calf without ownership documentation and an outstanding felony arrest warrant for narcotics charges.
Riverside County Animal Services responded to the location and took possession of the calf, which was placed into animal foster care pending the outcome of this investigation. Police and Animal Services officials believe the calf may have been stolen and are asking for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Riverside County Animal Services at the below listed information:
