PET OWNERS: Please do not call our shelter phone lines for a free spay/neuter appointment request. Our phone lines are being clogged. The appointments are all filled for the outreach on Friday and Saturday in Indio.
However, we encourage you to please send us your name, phone number and number of pets you need altered, to this e-mail address:

This is the fastest and most efficient way to help us build a database of pet owners needing assistance with future s/n outreaches. We will keep you informed if future outreaches are planned.
Also, please do not call Animal Samaritans. It is also booked solid with the free surgeries it offered in this unique outreach.
FRIDAY, Jan. 17, 2014 – A nonprofit organization that specializes in mobile spay & neuter surgeries rolls into eastern Riverside County next week (Friday, Jan. 24) to offer free services.
The Lucy Pet Foundation's mobile unit will be at the Indio Civic Center for two days, offering free surgeries, free vaccinations and free microchips.
Riverside County Animal Services, in conjunction with Animal Samaritans SPCA Inc., the Animal Action League and the city of Indio, coordinated the event, nicknamed the Coachella Valley Outreach Days for Pets. The veterinary doctors and technicians will be assisting pet owners on Friday, Jan. 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25.
Mobile spay & neuter vehicles and veterinary professionals from the Animal Action League and Riverside County Animal Services team are joining forces with the Lucy Pet Foundation. Representatives from Animal Samaritans will be on hand to assist with vaccinations and other services. Animal Samaritans is also providing some free surgeries for pets at its clinic location.
Although pet owners have already been lined up to receive free spay/neuter surgeries for their animals, the free vaccinations and microchips will be for any pet owner that arrives between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cap for each day is 250 pets.
The location of the mobile units and veterinary professionals is at the corner of Miles Avenue and Smurr Street, just next to Indio City Hall.
The Lucy Pet Foundation is based in Thousand Oaks and its mission is to assist pet owners in communities where pet overpopulation remains a major issue. This is the Lucy Pet Foundation mobile unit's first visit into Riverside County. The organization's chief veterinarian, Dr. Karen Halligan, is a former director for spcaLA, where she worked for 12 years.
"We are very fortunate to share this wonderful outreach effort with the Lucy Pet Foundation and other caring partners," Riverside County Animal Services Director Robert Miller said. "This is a very generous outreach by all and we hope we can make this offer in other parts of our eastern county communities."
