Riverside County Department of Animal Services Flies 13 Large Dogs to Seattle Humane

December 16, 2025

Riverside, CA –Riverside County Department of Animal Services partnered with Wings of Rescue to send 13 large dogs and 2 cats to Washington state on a lifesaving flight Sunday.

With almost 1,000 dogs in the shelter system, RCDAS continues to operate in critical overcapacity for the number of dogs compared to kennel space.

“This is what progress looks like,” said Fourth District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “Everyone can be part of the solution to helping more RivCo pets, and we need the community’s support to save lives through adoption and foster.”

As RCDAS continues to operate in critical overcapacity for dogs, adoption fees are waived at all shelter locations for the month of December to encourage community members to help save lives.

“Large, adult dogs tend to stay in our shelters the longest so helping these 13 dogs find a way out thanks to our strong partnerships is huge,” said RCDAS Assistant Director Dr. Kimberly Youngberg. “We want to keep the momentum going in all aspects of lifesaving to include our foster, adoption, rescue, pet support and enrichment programs.”

All fee-waived adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchips, vaccinations, and an engraved ID tag. There are hundreds of breeds, ages, sizes and personalities to choose from at each shelter location and staff are available to answer questions about the pets available for adoption.

“These lifesaving flights are important and so are the people on the ground who show up for RivCo pets,” said Fifth District Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez. “There are so many wonderful pets who are waiting for their chance to be seen, and each one of us can step up in some way to help.”
