Stray Pets Heading to City Shelter on Charles Street

A contract between Riverside County Animal Services with the city of Banning expired on June 30.

That means the county’s animal control officers will not be patrolling Banning city limits starting today (July 1). The city is now handling its own strays and the pets will be heading to the city’s shelter.

Pet owners seeking to reunite with their pets should check online at arerescue.org or visit the shelter, located at 2444 Charles St., Banning, 92220.

Stray animals that have been impounded by Riverside County’s animal control officers previously – and through to June 30 – will be transported to this facility.

As a reminder to pet owners, it’s always important to check all area shelters when looking for a lost pet. For example, Cherry Valley stray pets are impounded by Riverside County Animal Services’ officers at the county’s Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms. Stray dogs, of course, do not stay within city boundaries and may roam into other communities handled by a different animal control agency.
