Riverside County’s animal shelter in Jurupa Valley changed the hours of operation today and appointments will not be necessary for morning adoptions.
The new hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter, located at 6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley.
Previously, the morning hours were reserved for those seeking to adopt and had scheduled an appointment. Now walk-ins are welcomed. Walk-in services include: adoptions, stray pet turn-ins, pet-owner reunions and licensing.
Please note: The appointment process remains for spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and microchip requests.
“These changes will help us serve our pet owners – and would-be adopters – more efficiently,” said Kim Youngberg, a program chief overseeing shelter administration.
“We had been operating with the COVID-19 virus still in our midst and some of the restrictions put in place were done to protect employees and the public,” she said. “But we believe the county is trending in the right direction with vaccinations and lowered positivity rates. It’s time our hours reflect a more welcoming approach.”
