Animal Control Officer Rescues Raccoon from Razor Wire

July 23, 2020

The rescue was handled by two of our officers, Kellsey Hoesman and Carra Mathewson. Kellsey is on the ladder and Carra is holding it and keeping it stable. And officer Mathewson captured the footage too.

The call came in at about 9:15 a.m. and, at first, someone reported that the raccoon was stuck on a razor wire, barrier fence at the was the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. It was able to move, though, as is clearly evident in the footage. Although several attempts were made to snare the critter, it tried to elude the officer and, in some tense moments, fell into the razor wire. Remarkably, the raccoon was not injured. Officer Mathewson released the raccoon in a wildlife area near Charles Street in Banning.
