Two Happy Results: A Tale of Two Doggies

June 4, 2020

As some of you know, we were caring for a service dog belonging to a veteran who, sadly, was hospitalized after falling ill to the corona virus impacting so many of us. Additionally, last week we received an injured dog from a Good Samaritan. This dog appeared to have suffered injuries caused by burns consistent with some type of chemical.

We’re happy to report that both of these pets have left our shelters in Jurupa Valley and Thousand Palms, respectively.

We were able to make contact with a dear friend of the veteran. The friend, an Orange County woman, is very familiar with the man’s dog and agreed to foster the pet while her friend continues to receive great care over at the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System. We continue to pray this kind man recovers. (We started caring for his dog on April 30 so it’s been a long fight for this veteran.)

Meanwhile, veterinary team members at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms began treatment for the injured dog on May 27. Through our partnership with Animal Samaritans, a rescue organization (Aussie Rescue So Cal) was lined up and one of their representatives drove to the shelter to retrieve the pooch.

I provide these updates to let folks know we’re continuing our efforts within our shelters, despite the unique situation we’re in right now. (Pet adoptions by appointment only, for example.) Also, I must admit that it’s difficult to send this e-mail because we would not want to come off as insensitive to the larger, more serious issues occurring in our country. Nonetheless, we are proud to have been involved in making these animals’ lives better and we’re hopeful the video clips offer a brief, pleasant distraction for our community members.
