Animal Services Received Many Calls about River Bottom Horse
Riverside County Animal Services impounded a horse today that had proved to be very elusive.
The horse had been wandering around a section of the Santa Ana River between in the Riverside and Jurupa Valley areas. Animal Services received many calls about it.
Although county animal control officers responded several times, including once with a large team, the horse escaped capture.
Fortunately, Animal Services received great assistance from employees at The Toro Company’s irrigation andlighting division.
Toro’s back property runs along the Santa Ana River and employees and the manufacturing company allowedAnimal Services to set up a makeshift corral. The horse wandered into it Friday and an employee shut the gate and Animal Services was called.
It is uncertain how the horse ended up in the river room area. It may have been abandoned. It is a male, quarter horse mix and its age is unknown. The horse does not like to be touched and officers loaded it into a trailer without physically handling it.
“We appreciate the huge help from the folks at Toro,” Animal Services Commander Chris Mayer said. “Wehave been getting a lot of calls about this horse. We’re happy to be able to tell everyone we finally have thehorse in our care.”
