Homeless Pets Ready for ‘Clear the Shelters’ Special Rates Set for Saturday, Aug. 15th

August 10, 2015

FRIDAY, AUG. 7, 2015 – Three Riverside County animal shelters are participating in the “Clear the Shelters” event, a national adoption promotion spearheaded by NBCUniversal television affiliates.

NBCUniversal stations are promoting the “Clear the Shelters” day – Saturday, Aug. 15th – to raise awareness about homeless pets. The hope is the event spikes thousands of adoptions throughout Southern California and beyond. The stations are running on-air promotional spots, advertising campaigns and reporters are visiting shelters to do live shots.

To mark the day, Riverside County Animal Services is offering a very special adoption rate at its three largest shelters. The Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms will adopt out dogs or cats at just $6 – a nod to the NBC affiliate in Palm Desert, KMIR News Channel 6.

The county’s San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus in San Jacinto and the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter will offer the special rate, $4.52 – a nod to Los Angeles-based KNBC Channel 4 and KNBC’s Spanish-language sister station, KVEA Telemundo Channel 52. These two shelters will open one hour earlier on Saturday, Aug. 15th – 10 a.m. – to honor the event. (The Coachella Valley Animal Campus is usually open at 10 a.m. on Saturdays.)

“This is a great event that we’re very proud to be a part of and we can’t wait to see more of our animals find their way into loving families,” Riverside County Animal Services Director Robert Miller said.

The Coachella Valley Animal Campus is located at 72-050 Pet Land Place, Thousand Palms, 92276.

The San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus is located at 581 S. Grand Ave., San Jacinto, 92582.

The Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter is located at 6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley, 92509. (One very important note for visitors of this shelter that day: the main shelter also runs a vaccination & microchip clinic on the third Saturday of each month; these clinics – running 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – are extremely popular and that means parking will be challenging that morning. We are offering our apologies in advance; visitors will likely have to use our overflow dirt lot behind our shelter. Please consider carpooling that day.)
