Embedded Collar Dog Adopted by the Good Samaritan Who Discovered Her in Poor Condition

June 28, 2015

Here are some new photos of the man, Ernesto Perez, with the dog he called Riverside County Animal Services about on June 4.

The dog was in very poor condition. (I have copied and pasted the original news release information below.) She was in such bad shape, Mr. Perez said he thought her head was about to fall off; he thought this because she had an embedded collar. It was later discovered that the dog had a shoelace still wrapped around its neck, which resulted in serious necrosis of her neck tissue. She was likely in severe pain too.

But Riverside County Animal Services veterinary staff members nursed the dog back to health and today marked a new journey for the dog now known as “Rosie.”

Mr. Perez never stopped thinking about the one-and-a-half-year-old German shepherd mix.

He called the shelter about her. He asked to come visit with her.

And today he officially adopted the dog that he said he could give a better life.

Here are some photos of Mr. Perez with Rosie, and Mr. Perez’s girlfriend, Miriam Rodriguez. And there is an additional picture with some of our team members that grew to love the dog too.

P.S. THE TOP PHOTO WAS TAKEN BY ONE OF OUR VOLUNTEER PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS, KELLY VELA, WHO JUST HAPPENED TO BE AT THE SHELTER TODAY, COINCIDENTALLY. Kelly and her husband, Gil, team up to take professional portraits of our shelter’s homeless pets. We love their shots… and we love this one too.
