Animal Control Officer Impounds Illegal Deer
GLEN AVON – A Riverside County Animal Services officer impounded an illegal deer today (Tuesday, Sept. 15).
Native species are illegal to possess without a special permit.
A Riverside County Code Enforcement officer informed the Department of Animal Services about the deer during a check of the property in the 3600 block of Mears Avenue in the unincorporated Riverside County area of Glen Avon west of the city of Riverside and south of Fontana.
Animal Control Officer Will Luna responded and informed the man who presumably owned the deer as a domestic pet that he was in violation of the law. He released the deer to the officer and Officer Luna contacted the state Department of Fish & Game.
A state Department Fish & Game warden is planning to retrieve the deer Wednesday from the Riverside Animal Shelter.
Officer Luna said the deer was very friendly. The deer quickly became the star attraction at the Riverside Shelter Tuesday afternoon.
