Kitty Rescued From Interstate 215 Storm Drain

Stray Domestic Short Hair is Now Available for Adoption

RIVERSIDE – An animal control officer plucked a friendly kitty from a freeway storm drain in Riverside.

Veterinary staff members examined the kitten and it appears in good condition. She earned the nickname “Raindrop” for now.

The domestic short-haired cat became available for adoption today (Tuesday, Aug. 25). She is mostly white with some tiger stripes and patches of orange on her head. Her animal ID Number is 684220.

Workers from the state Department of Transportation tipped off Riverside County Animal Services on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, and the call center dispatched Officer Kristina Hillegaart to the scene. The freeway storm drain was located along a sound wall on the south side of Interstate 215/Highway 60 near a Blaine Street entrance.

The little kitty looked up through the metal grates right as the officer arrived. Officer Hillegaart realized there was a very small nook on right side of the grates and was able to reach in and pluck her out of her trapped environment.

“I love this kitty,” Officer Hillegaart said. “She’s such a sweet, loving cat.”
