The Department of Animal Services provides a relinquishment service to the public for pet owners who are unable to keep their pets. Please allow at least 45 minutes for the relinquishment appointment. After completing an animal history form you will have a consultation with an employee trained in animal behavior. Following the consultation we may conduct a behavior assessment of your pet while you wait.
Moving is the most common reason why people give up their pets. Here is a website for people looking for places to move in southern CA with their pets www.peoplewithpets.com
- Relinquishing Fees:
$20.00 fee plus 2 days of board at $15.00 each for a total of $50.00 total per animal
, unless they are a litter.
Rescue option
You may want to consider surrendering your pet to an animal rescue organization instead. Rescues are privately run groups that usually specialize in certain breeds or breed mixes. A good number of rescues keep their pets with fosters families in a home environment until they are adopted. In some cases they are able to assist in placing animals with special needs. Below are list of referral agencies for animal rescues. The Department Of Animal Services does not recommend or endorse this list.
